Chairman Luella Buske
Ask a Female Veteran to be your Valentine!
I am sure you are all busy planning for Christmas! However, Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it and what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than to thank our female veterans. The time to organize sending Valentine gifts/cards to the female veterans in our VA facilities is now. It is also important to remember the female veterans in our own Legion posts and communities, as well as, active duty women currently serving. Remembering these women dedicated to our country’s safety by presenting them with a small gift and/or card on Valentine’s Day is the least we can do to thank them for their sacrifice.
For the female veterans in our VA facilities, it is necessary to contact our representatives at each facility to get the number of ladies there, and some idea for gifts. The gifts will need to be to the representatives by February 5th.
Here is a list of the VA facilities and the American Legion Auxiliary Districts responsible for each:
Captain James A Lovell Districts 2-9
Hines VA Medical Center Districts 2-13
Jesse Brown VA Districts 2-9
Illiana VA Health Care System Districts 17, 18, 19, & 21
Marion VA Medical Center Districts 22-25
IL Veterans Home Anna Districts 22-25
IL Veterans Home LaSalle Districts 12, 13, & 16
IL Veterans Home Manteno Districts 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, &19
IL Veterans Home Quincy Districts 14, 15, 16, 20, & 21
Jefferson Barracks VAMC Districts 22-25
John Cochran VAMC Districts 22-25
We might know women who are veterans, but do not think about thanking them for what they have done for our country and us. Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to show our appreciation.
A great gift idea is the gift of membership in our Great organization. Remember that National & Department have waived the dues for new female veteran members. If your Unit has too, you could give a Great gift at no cost to you! Maybe you could take those funds and buy a beautiful card or a small gift to go with the membership.
While checking with the VA facilities regarding how many female veterans are there, and ideas for gifts, please remember to find out if the gifts can be wrapped or not. If they can be wrapped, a list of items in the package should be included.
Let’s make this a great year for Valentine’s Day and our female veterans.
